The mortar joint — horizontally along the wall separating two basins and vertically on the side retaining walls — that affixed the shell-shaped shield.
The light socket was embedded in the side retaining wall. The shield wrapped around the colored light in the light socket so that the light cast back upon the water falling from the higher bowl without being seen directly from the front.
